All that glitters need not end up in landfill

The party season is on the horizon 🎄 And if you are anything like me, there will be masses of presents, plenty of cards, and copious amounts of wrapping paper and sellotape. I LOVE buying gifts and cards but can see how this will add to the landfill come January. This year I have been looking for some easy swaps that will lessen my contribution to landfill without lessening my enjoyment of buying presents and cards!

Sustainable wrapping paper

Instead of buying difficult to recycle wrapping paper and sellotape I’m going to try some innovative wrapping ideas like recycled wrapping paper (from: Happywrap or EcoVibe) or reusable wrapping (from: The Fabric Wrapping Co and happywrap).

Gift Card alternatives

I love buying cards but know what a waste they are as they are opened and never kept! I have been using seed cards lately as they are a great eco-friendly alternative and a fun little extra surprise to the people I give them too. It helps that so many of my recipients are gardeners too 😄 (from: The Seed Card Company or Eco Friendly Cards) And even if they don’t plant the cards they are biodegradable anyway!

Eco-glitter

Normal glitter is typically made of plastic but there are biodegradable options to help you bring a sustainable sparkle to your parties! (From: Eco Glitter Fun)

Biodegradable Balloons

It’s now quite easy to get biodegradable balloons from a number of stores (try: Pretty Little Party Shop) to keep those parties fun.

Next time you are planning a party or thinking of gift giving check out some exciting and innovative alternatives that could surprise and delight your recipient 🤩

Have any party alternatives to share - we’d love to hear from you!
